About
Declan Miers was born in Buffalo, New York, and raised in a musical household. Shortly after fully dedicating himself to the bass at the age of 12, he started gigging around townwith his musician father, and was soon filling his week with a plethora of gigs and weekly church services.
After successfully auditioning for Buffalo’s performing arts high school, Declan was offered the opportunity to join the University at Buffalo Jazz Ensemble, and was under the direction of Count Basie Orchestra pianist George Caldwell. He graduated high school a year earlyand was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to Berklee College of Music.
Declan studied with bassist Mike Pope and performed in various student ensembles duringhis time at Berklee. By age 18, he made the move to Los Angeles, and began internationally touring and recording with singer/ songwriter Mac Ayres. He later went on to play with a list of artists that includes SZA, Chloe X Halley, Ava Max, Alex Isley, Ambré, Justus West, Brass Tracks and Miki Howard between 2019-2022. He will next be on SZA’s sold out S.O.S tour.
Declan has played F Basses exclusively since 2016:
“You know it the moment you feel an Fbass in your hands. There’s an instant level of comfort and connection, and you can just tell that the instrument was crafted with such ahigh level of precision and care. There’s no other instrument that sounds like it. They cut through like a knife, while still supporting the bottom end. The bass stars in its role – it can be a
vocalist and it can be a drummer equally well. Having that kind of versatility in one instrument is priceless. And the kindness of George, Marcel, Aleef and the whole F Bass family really seals the deal – good people making incredible instruments.”
